"Visual art to me is not just about
making things. It is a language. Children adopt this language as a natural
course before they tackle the written word.
If we don't keep using that language after a prolific childhood of art-making,
then we lose an avenue of expression that forces us to slow down and look more
closely and carefully at everything, that puts us in touch with details we never
noticed before while at the same time allowing us to be in touch with our own feelings
and imagination.
Most of all, it enables us to communicate across boundaries of country, age,
centuries and culture."
