The Spirites Consort has been performing
Renaissance music since 1999 (Lise has been performing it with various other
players since 1994). They perform for Renaissance Faires, concert series,
schools, libraries, folk festivals, church concerts and house concerts. Their
repertoire includes composers Dowland, Ford and Campion (who lived during Queen
Elizabeth’s reign) as well as anonymous folk songs from the era (Child
Ballads), as well as instrumentals from Turlough O’Carolan and English Country
Dance. The “Wing’d With Hopes” CD which features a lot of the material
they play in their concerts, showcases Joe Davoli on violin, but he had an
aversion to wearing costumes and shied away from performances where that was a
requirement, so Jim Lestrange subsequently joined the group on hammered
dulcimer.
